Asia Society Hong Kong Center is proud to present a conversation with John L. Thornton, Global Co-Chair of the Asia Society Board of Trustees, hosted by Ronnie C. Chan, Chairman of Asia Society Hong Kong Center.

As tensions between the United States and China grow and become more entrenched, the world is trying to understand how to navigate a bipolar order. How will US-China bilateral relations change in the aftermath of China’s 20th Party Congress later this month and US mid-term elections in November? What are the prospects for future cooperation between the US and China on issues of global concern? Where will the drive to de-couple the world’s two largest economies lead the global economy?

John L. Thornton is an influential voice on US-China economic relations, based on decades of experience investing in and engaging with China, first as a leader of Goldman Sachs and later as a board member of major US corporations and investment firms. Currently, Mr. Thornton is Executive Chairman of Barrick Gold Corporation. In discussion with Ronnie C. Chan, Mr. Thornton will provide unique insights into our 21st century geopolitical reality.
